Back about one year ago when I looked around at my life and realized it wasn’t mine, I had no idea how to create a life that WAS mine.
Even though I knew that this wasn’t what I wanted, I wasn’t exactly sure what I did want, or how to create the life I was meant to live.
I read about manifesting, and how our thoughts create our reality, but if I didn’t know what reality I wanted to create, how was I supposed to even start thinking the thoughts I needed to think in order to get there??
If this is where you are right now, I completely empathize. And I want to give you some of the tools that I used to get to where I am today, only a year later… Which though it felt long, is a fairly short period of time in the grand scheme of things.
First, I started writing down what I did not like. Things in my life I did not enjoy. It was easier to start with the negative, so I began there. This exercise helped me start to tune into my body to see whether or not certain things or experiences gave me negative feelings or positive feelings.
Then, I created a list of things I loved. At first this seemed intimidating. But I realized I could start small and simple. My first list looked something like this.
I love ::
coffee in the morning
sleeping for 8.5 hours
chocolate chip cookies
yoga with my favorite yoga teacher
playing with puppies
And that was pretty much it at the time. This wasn’t exactly something I could create a dream life out of, but it lead me toward discovering what I enjoyed, what I desired, and what I didn’t. The list eventually expanded to over 100 things!
I started listing out the things I hated about my job and the things I loved about it. I started identifying what I loved about my hobbies. And what I loved about the things I wanted to do. And I made lists of what I wanted to do in the future.
I took step after step until I decided to move across the country and seek a particular type of job.
And step after step until I decided to instead start my own business.
And step after step allowing my business to evolve.
In the moment, it felt like each step was small enough to not be significant.
Even the cross country move began with a decision that I would probably move. Then a decision that I might move in the spring. Then a decision that I could move in March, etc.
Step by step until I was actually moving across the country.
Then I’d be interested in something and look into it, and it would lead me to look into something else.
I’d meet someone and they would lead me to see things in a slightly different perspective, which would lead me down another path.
Each step and each pivot is like a breadcrumb leading us down the path toward our soul’s purpose, toward our dream life.
Even though each step seems small at the time, we’ll look back at how it all accumulated and we’ll realize we’re living an entirely different life! And not only is it different, but it is what we’re MEANT to be doing.
The key is to separate out the “should’s” and the “should not’s” of others’ expectations of us, from our TRUE soul’s divine desires.
So, start small. Make a list. And know that taking even just that one step will kickstart a beautiful journey taking you toward your purpose, toward your DREAM life.
BIG love and endless moonlight to you loves.
