For most of my life, the only teachers I had were the ones in school and in universities. Many of them teaching from a curriculum with the foundational mindset that we had to learn in class, read the books, get the degree, and then start at entry – level and work our way up.
This is of course required if we want to represent clients as a lawyer in courts, treat patients as a doctor, work on electricity, or become licensed in any profession that legally requires a license in our culture.
But, for me, this evolved into the limiting belief that it was ALWAYS required. That anything I ever wanted to do with my life required getting a degree.
If there were no degree programs for it, then I HAD to find a teacher.
But what if you want to provide something to the world that isn’t taught by anyone? Or is taught in one way but you really feel called to offer it in another way, a new way?
I had to realize that there are some paths we may take that, try as we might to get it, we will never get the permission we’re taught to rely on.
No degree. No teacher saying, You’re ready.
And when we know it’s our path because we can’t imagine not following it even though it feels scary and amazing all at the same time, then we take the leap anyway.
That’s where the magic happens. That’s how divine guidance comes through. Even if you get the degree, but then you feel called to take your licensed work in a direction no one has gone before, and you overcome the nay-sayers and the doubters, that’s how innovation happens.
I had no one to ask for permission to start leading moon circles. But I sure did try to find it.
But why do we need permission? Why aren’t we taught to trust our intuition and our curiosities? And that there is more than one type of path we can take in our career, and in our pursuit of our life’s purpose?
I’m SO fortunate to be surrounded now by teachers who have chosen to follow their own paths even though no one taught them how. They inspire me and show me what is possible. And they provide real value in their teachings.
They’re not teaching me how to lead moon circles or how to best follow my path.
They’re teaching me to trust my intuition, trust my inner guides, and to trust my curiosity.
To create my own path, without anyone else’s permission.
What have you been waiting to bring into the world, hoping someone would give you permission or tell you you’re ready? #taketheleap
